April 26th, 2016:

We are so excited to share Lambeau's great news. Lambeau has been adopted. He is loving his forever home and they are loving him. Lambeau already enjoys raw sweet potatoes, artichokes and apples. His forever home said Lambeau's tastes will fit right in with there veggie and fruit menu

Apoquel was the miracle medicine for Lambeau's allergies. I feel like I had the privilege of meeting Lambeau for the first time after he started on the Apoquel (Apoquel Start date Dec 15, 2015) Note: Lambeau had been on a waiting list for Apoquel since May 2015. Lambeau had always been kind and gentle. Now I am meeting the Lambeau who is actually excited about his life! Lambeau had so much puppy-like energy... it was wonderful to watch. He was running and jumping on the couch and initiating playing with his favorite toys.

Congratulations Lambeau!

January 13th, 2016:

Lambeau was able to start on a new allergy medication (apoquel) in Mid-December. His dose of zyrtec has been cut in half, and he’s gone for 3 weeks without needing a medicated bath. The steroid lotion has also been eliminated. Beginning today, we are eliminating all the zyrtek and will see if Lambeau can remain comfortable with monthly medicated baths. I am pleased to report he is doing wonderfully! His itching is pretty normal and he appears very comfortable. He continues to show me more and more of his personality each day. He is initiating play and entertaining himself with squeaker toys. These are all new behaviors; maybe he’s feeling good for the first time in a very long time and we can see who he really is. Lambeau puts his head in my lap and asks for cuddles and hugs. He is such a sweet and gentle little man. On Saturday we did the Meet and Greet at Younkers. Lambeau is always excited to participate and has as much fun with all the attention he gets. When people find out his name is Lambeau, they are over the top with excitement. Lambeau enjoys being with the other Golden Retrievers that are there and patiently waits for the children to pet him.

December 14th, 2015:

In early November Lambeau had an allergy flair up. He was treated with a course of antibiotic and prednisone to bring down the inflammation. Until there is a hard freeze that holds, he will likely have ongoing issues with his allgerys. Lambeau's routine continues: weekly baths with medicated shampoo followed by steriod lotion. We play ball while he air dries in the kitchen with the fan going to circulate air. He also gets Zrytex twice daily and 1 tablespoon of coconut oil on his dog food. We are hoping to get his allergies more consistently under control before looking for Lambeau’s forever home. We may do some testing to find out exactly what he’s allergic to; we continue to be on the waiting list for the drug Apoquel which is said to be very effective. Lambeau barks very little when company enters the house and then he talks to them telling them how excited and happy he is that they came to visit him! He’s great meeting people of all ages, including children. Lambeau is always eager to go for a ride in the car or a long walk. He enjoys all the people and dogs he meets along the way.

October 3rd, 2015 Update:

Lambeau is doing great! He is always excited about going for walks. Our normal routine is morning and evening and sometimes a midday walk. He does best with cooler temperatures, so Fall is welcomed. He also eagerly goes for car rides; given the chance, he’ll jump into the front and ‘ride shotgun’.

Lambeau continues to surprise me. He’s relaxed around other dogs. A couple of weeks ago, he went to GRRoW’s Bark in the Park and was a hit with other volunteers and all the other Goldens. People couldn’t believe how healthy he looks.

Overall, the Vet is so pleased with the progress Lambeau has made with his allergies. His coat is fluffy and soft and hair has been growing back around his eyes. He has occasional flare ups (most recently last week) which require a trip to the vet. The treatment is usually continued diligence with medicated baths, lotion, and sometimes antibiotics. Managing his allergies is a bit of work, but Lambeau gives lots of love in return!

July 19th, 2015 Update:

Lambeau is now up to date on his vaccinations. He got these over a few weeks.

Overall, he seems much more comfortable with his allergies, and as you can see from his last photo, his coat is looking good and the hair is even growing back around his eyes!
He had a bad allergy flair up a week or so ago which we treated with an antibiotic, more medicated baths with a special lotion to soothe his skin, and a topical steroid spray. He also had a bout of diarrhea which was treated with metranidozole. Hi allergy treatment plan also includes 2 pills of generic Zrytex twice daily along with a tablespoon of coconut oil on his dog food twice a day.

Allergies aside, Lambeau is a great dog. He is calm when we are walking, and when he meets another dog, he slows down his pace and seems curious & open to meeting them. He is much more excited to see the dog owners, especially when they call him by his name.

We did experience two golden retrievers jumping a fence to meet Lambeau. The owners were unaware their dogs could clear the fence. Lambeau reacted beautifully. . . He just calmly stood there until the owners retrieved their dogs.

Lambeau gets excited when we are going to take a walk and jumps up in front of me. He doesn't’ respond to “off”, but he’s learned to sit nicely when I ask him to so I can get his harness on.

May 27, 2015 Update:

Lambeau has severe allergies.  When he arrived, he was clearly uncomfortable and could not stop scratching.  He’s lost much of the hair around his eyes, and he had some eyebrow bleeding from the scratching.  Even with all the itching, his personality shines through, and he is kind and very gentle.

Lambeau went to the vet for his first checkup.  He got his rabies shot, and meds for his bilateral ear infection, and is on antibiotics for a skin infection.  The vet also prescribed medicated shampoo and directed to give Lambeau a bath 2 times a week until his scratching settles down.  Rather than benedryl, the vet put him on generic Zyrtec to help control the itching.  He will be going in for a recheck next week, but he seems to be feeling more comfortable already.  He does continue to scratch and bite his feet, but if I call his name, he will stop scratching.

Lambeau has a very nice stride when we are walking and responds well to ‘heel’.  When I stop to talk with people he is very, very patient and just quietly waits.  It seems like Lambeau has been here for months.  He is calm and gentle and enjoys our walks 2 to 3 times daily.

May 24, 2015 Update:

Lambeau is a very sweet boy who came into GRRoW on May 15 and is settling into his foster home nicely. Stay tuned for updates!
