July 20th, 2016:
Diesel has found his forever family and will be leaving us this week. We are very sad to see him go; he has been a great companion in our house and has fit in very well with our golden and the kids. Diesel will be the only dog at his new home with 6 acres of wooded backyard to explore! His new family volunteers at a shelter walking dogs and is home most of the time so he will get lots of love and attention.

Diesel had his vet checkup and all went very well. Everyone at the office loved him, even people bringing their own animals in came to say hello to Diesel as he sat patiently waiting to be seen by the vet. He is a healthy boy and up to date on all vaccinations and preventatives. We are currently looking at applicants to adopt Diesel, trying to find the perfect forever home for him where he will be loved and get the attention he craves. Diesel has really settled in to our house well, with kids and dogs running in and out, he always knows what’s going on and has improved greatly on the jumping and begging. We let people know when they come over that they just need to greet him with a pat on the head and he will be content. Diesel really is a great dog and will be a great addition to any home looking for a big golden! Diesel will be 6 yrs old on July 4. . . maybe he will have a forever home for his birthday!

Diesel is a very gentle giant. He’s great with kids and other dogs, he is very hesitant around our cat, but not aggressive at all with him, I think he’s just unsure. The only issues we have with him is begging and jumping. He likes to jump on people when he’s excited, so we are working on this by introducing people slowly and it seems to be working. The begging isn’t bad, more of an annoyance because we’re so used to a dog who doesn’t beg. He doesn’t always beg either, when I’m cooking, he’s happy just being in the kitchen with me, it’s when we sit down to eat, he will stare, no drooling, barking or whining, just a stare, and short of putting him in his kennel, there’s nothing yet we’ve found to work so we just ignore him while we have food. He likes to be near the action and LOVES attention. He will whine for attention, but a simple pat on the head to let him know we’re paying attention will settle him. He is a very big guy and is not afraid to push his way wherever he needs to go, but it’s not aggressive, he just happens to be a massive dog. He is eating well, does not take treats, toys, bones or food from our dog and our dog gives him the same respect, which is nice. He is basically a problem free dog who will benefit from a family that truly wants a companion, not a family that would want to be busy without him near. We did backyard projects all weekend and Diesel was perfectly content being outside with us lounging and making sure every now and then that we knew he was there, but he wasn’t in the way.
