Adoption Date: August 25th, 2015
September 6th, 2015:
We are happy to tell you that sweet gentle Harley has been adopted! Her forever home just loves her and they are bonding in great fashion. Harley has met her grandkids and family and they are really liking her, too. More news to come soon, with new photos!
July 21, 2015 Update:
Harley is ready for her forever home! Her surgery in June was successful and she has no incontinence or urinary tract issues any longer-yeah Harley! She also has lost weight, so she enjoys her walks and playing in her yard even more but also is content just to sit at your feet! She is a very sweet girl who warms her way into everyone’s heart. Although she is a mix, she has all the “golden genes”!! Harley gets along well with everyone-other dogs (see the photo of her with my resident dog), cats and of course, people. If you are looking for a happy, mellow girl with a heart of gold who just wants to be with you, then you will fall in love with Harley.
June 9, 2015 Update:
Harley is such a wonderful, sweet, mellow girl and is a joy to foster. Harley and my resident golden have become great friends. She is enjoying playing in the yard and going on longer walks, which is great because we wanted to get some weight off her before her surgery mid-June. And, so far, she’s lost 5 lbs. Yeah Harley! More good news is that she has been on meds for her incontinence and they are working too-no accidents in the house. We will update you again after her surgery to remove the folds of skin that retain some of her urine and have lead to urinary tract infections. She has so much love to give and will make a wonderful companion for her adoptive home.
May 4, 2015 Update:
Harley is very sweet girl! She is really coming out of her shell. Check out the photo of Harley and my golden (also a GRRoW dog)-they’re touching paws!!!! They have become friends very quickly and they are playing/running. This is just wonderful for Harley. She had an exciting weekend because I dog sat a friends’ golden (another GRRoW dog) and all three of them played in the yard. She certainly hasn’t had any trouble with this transition! Harley went to the vet for her check-up. All her blood chemistries, including thyroid, are great. We did a repeat urinalysis and she no longer has a uterine tract infection. She does have an occasional incontinence issue that we are now treating with medication. We also learned that a reason for her recurrent urinary tract infections is that she has folds of skin that can end up retaining some urine and it becomes an ideal environment for bacteria to grow and cause a local infection. Harley will undergo surgery to remove the excess skin to resolve her problems. She is still overweight, which contributes to the excess folds, so my vet wants us to increase her exercise level and recheck her weight in one month before we do the surgery. Since she is playing and running now, we will increase her walks as well to help her to loose some more of the weight. This should not be a problem because she just loves having fun. Harley is not the least bit demanding but is very content to lie at your feet and be with you. She is a very well-trained, exceptionally sweet girl and will make a wonderful loving companion for her future adoptive family.
April 16, 2015 Update:
Harley is a big, huggable sweet girl, quiet and gentle, and very loving. She likes to be around people and will follow you when you leave the room, but then just sit quietly at your feet. She doesn't beg or counter surf, bark or jump, so her manners are perfect. She is currently on a diet to lose a little of her extra weight and that should make her able to go for longer walks than she likes right now. She loves her treats, though, and takes them very gently and will sit and down and shake in return. Her coat has a lot of the chow characteristics and is now growing out of being shaved. She benefits from being brushed with her dense undercoat. She is not big on playing games with her foster golden sister, but likes to go outside with her and sniff. She ignores the three fussy cats in the house. Harley is ready to be a big, cuddly friend to you.
