Poppy has been with me for almost three weeks now to kickstart her behavior modification with positive reinforcement methods. She is off to a great start and I look forward to continuing to work with her in her foster home.
The main focus with Poppy is working on changing what we call her conditioned emotional response she has towards the world. Poppy is what we would label “unsure/fearful” about new people and places. How do I know? Her body language and inability to take high value reinforcers. (When you are worried your ability to eat is impacted which impacts your ability to find relaxation). So we are working together to help her feel relaxed and more comfortable when exposed to new things. It is a progression timeline that depends on the dog.
Miss Poppy has developed a lot of confidence in the home environment; she plays, loves tug, thinks dog friends are the best thing ever, and loves to play fetch with her friends in the snow. She also loves working on her foundation behavior skills. We also love our walks together where she shows a lot of relaxed body language and sniffing; taking in the world which is fantastic!
