December 26th, 2016:
Alexander and Canela moved into their forever home on Thursday. They did great their first night and Canela is loving that she's allowed to sit on the couch! Alex snored in the night so we know he slept well. They have new toys and two young girls in the family to play with. They're going to like their new home.
October 27th, 2016:
Happy Monday from Alex and Canela, our foster pups! We took them in back in August and they are clearly feeling better these days after we got all of their medical issues cleared up. They LOVE people of all ages, but Canela is not such a fan of other dogs. So, we are working with a trainer to help her deal with her anxiety and be able to enjoy her walks when other dogs are present. Alex is a big, goofy, giant ball of fur who loves casual walks and the occasional romp in the backyard while Canela is high speed, and loves to chase a tennis ball as much as she loves being petted and groomed. They are both very sweet dogs!
September 7th, 2016:
Canela came into GRRoW from Puerto Rico with Alexander on August 11. They are a bonded pair and should be adopted together. Canela is 3 ½. Upon arrival we were told that she may have a UTI and to get her in to see the vet ASAP. We got her in the next day. She did have a UTI so she was put on an antibiotic. After five days she wasn’t getting any better so the vet took an x-ray. We found out that she had bladder stones. She must have been in a lot of pain. Finally, on August 26 she had the bladder stones surgically removed. She was spayed at the same time. She is feeling better and enjoys her daily walks. She loves squeaky tennis balls and a small stuffed rabbit toy that she carries around the house and will bring to you as a "present" upon coming home Canela's post op checkup went well. She even gained a ½ pound since surgery! The incision looks very good and she can now be cone-free and go back to playing ball and long walks! Her bladder stones were struvite and the vet recommended she stay on the Royal Canin SO Urinary food to hopefully, avoid any more UTIs and anymore bladder stones. He said the stones were "truly impressive in size." She had to be terribly uncomfortable for a long time, poor thing. But at least now she is feeling much better!
August 15th, 2016:
Canela is new in foster care. More information will follow.
Canela is currently available for adoption through our match process only. If you are interested in adopting one of our GRRoW dogs and would like to be added to our list of waiting families, please fill out an application found in the adoption section. Dogs that are available for adoption are then carefully matched with families from the list starting with those who have been waiting the longest. Although we cannot guarantee you will be matched with the dog of your choice, we recommend you mention any dogs you are interested in on your application.
