Buddy, age 12, passed away on the morning of January 18. After 13 bouts of pneumonia in the past three years, recently diagnosed lymphoma, and failing strength and happiness, we decided it was time to let him go. Buddy will always hold a special place in my heart because it was his personality that prompted me to investigate the world of therapy dogs. (So we have him to thank or blame, depending on your perception!) His meet-and-greets for the Golden Retriever Rescue of Wisconsin started him on his career. For Dogs On Call, he visited at St. Mary's Hospital, St. Mary's Renal Center, Four Winds Nursing Home, Meriter Hospital, Meriter's Child & Adolescent Hospital, and participated in the R.E.A.D. program at several libraries. Buddy was also a Pet Pals therapy dog at the American Family Children's Hospital. He hated water, but loved chewing on sticks, making snow angels, and napping in the sunshine. He was a very, very good boy. (Except when he ran away up north and ended up at the fish cleaning house at the resort half-a-mile away. And the other time he ran away up north and ended up elbow-deep in muck. And then there were those rabbits ...)
